Biography:

Bud is a principal member of the Insurance Defense, Insurance Coverage and Large Loss Subrogation practice groups, and he works primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, insurance defense, insurance coverage, catastrophic fire and explosion claims, toxic torts, products liability, construction litigation, and large loss subrogation claims. Throughout the course of his career, Bud has tried hundreds cases to verdict and handled hundreds of other claims, arbitrations and appellate proceedings primarily in the State and Federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Bud has served on numerous professional committees and boards, and he is very active with the defense bar associations for the jurisdictions in which he practices. <<For more biographical information>>>

Bud was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1959, and grew up in the Towson, Maryland area. He graduated from Calvert Hall High School, a two-year starter and member of the famed 1976 MSA champion team. While in college, Bud majored in Government, receiving a B.A. degree from Georgetown University in 1982. Bud was admitted to the District of Columbia (1988) and Maryland Bar (1985) after graduating with honors from The University of Maryland School of Law in 1985.

Bud practiced insurance defense litigation at Smith, Somerville & Case from 1985 to 1989 and at the Law Office of Harold A. MacLaughlin from 1989 to 1992. He joined McCarthy Wilson in February of 1992, and became a partner in the firm on January 1, 2000.

Bud is an Officer of the State’s defense organization, the Maryland Defense Counsel, and he was recently elected to the post of Secretary. Bud serves as a member for the Montgomery County Fee Dispute Committee, and has previously served as the chairperson of the Civility Subcommittee, and been a member of the Personal Injury, Attorney Referral and Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections. He has contributed numerous articles on professionalism for the Montgomery County Bar Newsletter and insurance coverage issues for the MDC’s Defense Line. Sports, travel and music are Bud's main pursuits when not practicing law.
