Tom Ryan named the 2008 “Lawyer of the Year” by The District of Columbia Defense Lawyers’ Association

McCarthy Wilson LLP is pleased to announce the selection of Tom Ryan as the 2008 “Lawyer of the Year” by The District of Columbia Defense Lawyers’ Association (“DCDLA”).  The DCDLA is a professional organization formed by defense lawyers in the District of Columbia to promote excellence and integrity in the practice of civil litigation, to promote constant improvement in all aspects of civil trial practice, to provide a forum for defense attorneys to work together to improve the civil trial system and to urge the selection and appointment to the bench of well-qualified and experienced lawyers, and to promote continuing legal education to improve the skills and knowledge of lawyers engaged in defending civil cases in the greater DC metropolitan area.  Tom has been a very active member of the organization for many years, and he received this award at the DCDLA annual meeting on June 27, 2008.

At McCarthy Wilson, Tom is the senior active partner at the firm and a principal member of the Insurance Defense , Insurance Coverage and Workers Compensation practice groups, and he works primarily in the areas of civil litigation, insurance coverage, insurance defense, bad faith litigation, professional liability, catastrophic personal injury claims, construction litigation, toxic torts, products liability, and workers compensation. Throughout the course of his 30 year career with the firm, Tom has tried over 400 cases to jury verdict and handled hundreds of other bench trials, arbitrations and appellate proceedings primarily in the State and Federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Tom has served numerous professional appointments, boards and associations, and received many professional awards, reflecting his commitment to the furtherance of legal education, professionalism and civility in the practice of law.
